The Lafayette Police Department operates a public safety network. The Lamorinda Area Radio Interest Group (K6ORI) operates a group of nodes piggybacked over this network.
Network Topology
The microwave network started small just for the Lafayette, Orinda and Moraga area in 2019 to support wildfire cameras. It has since expanded to form a true ring around the Bay connecting multiple public safety agencies together mostly over licensed links (11, 23, 24 and 70 GHz) and a few unlicensed 60-80 GHz hops. The main ring goes from the Oakland Hills to Sutro tower, down to San Bruno, then Palo Alto, San Jose, Fremont, Pleasanton, San Ramon, and ending back in the Oakland Hills. There is a secondary mini ring that encompasses Contra Costa, which Kregor peak is part of.
The network runs the OSPF routing protocol.
The AREDN nodes run on a segmented VLAN over this network.
