East Bay Public Safety Microwave Network
The Lafayette Police Department operates a public safety network. The Lamorinda Area Radio Interest Group (K6ORI) operates a group of nodes piggybacked over this network.
Network Topology
The nodes that are labeled with K6ORI are interconnected through a wider microwave network that I set up for the wildfire cameras back in 2019. This microwave network encompasses Contra Costa, San Francisco, Alameda and Santa Clara County and and has a hub and spoke design with self healing capabilities through OSPF protocol. The network itself is made up of 11, 23, 24, and 70 gigahertz licensed radios to provide interference free links. The nodes sit on their own VLAN on this network for interconnection. The microwave network itself can support up to a gigabit of data throughput at any of the primary sites and the spokes usually provide up to 500 Mb symmetrical connection.
