I’m going to attempt to write a short monthly update to keep people informed about what’s going on with BAM/SFWEM. Apologies if I miss stuff - I will do my best. If there’s things going on that I should include, please let me know.

The Bay Area Backbone

The Bay Area Backbone is a long term project to create a set of solid, high-site, links around the Bay.

CCCC to Mount Diablo

KJ6DBZ brough the CCCC to Mount Diablo link online after fixing an intermittent power issue at CCCC.

ORCA to Fish Ranch

ORCA and Fish Ranch are two sites connected by a short, high-speed, link, but recently nature had been getting in the way, resulting in a very unreliable connection. KJ6WEG took a Saw to the problem, and two branch removals later, we have a solid link again.

Fish Ranch to San Bruno Mountain

The link to San Bruno Mountain aims to provide a solid connection across the Bay, and better mesh connectivity to that part of the Peninsula. Hardware has been installed and the link validated. It’s not active yet, but soon!

SCALE 19x

AREDN team members Tim Wilkinson KN6PLV and Orv Beach W6BI will be present in the Exhibit Hall at the Southern California Linux Expo (SCaLE) to be held at the Hilton Los Angeles Airport in Los Angeles, CA, the weekend of 29-31st July, 2022. We'll have a Birds of a Feature session Saturday 30th, at 7pm. Please drop by if you can.

AREDN Updates

Last release

The latest release of AREDN is 3.22.6.0, released on June 22nd, 2022. Upgrades are encouraged as this release contains lots of improvements.

An excellent talk, given by W6BI, on this release can be found on YouTube.

Latest nightly

AREDN is continually being improved with daily releases for the more adventurous. While we encourage people to try nightlies and provide feedback to the development team, please don’t install on nodes that would involve you climbing up a water tower or similar … just in case.
